How to Use a Printable Weekly Cleaning Checklist
A cleaning checklist is meant to be a guide for what you need to do to keep your house feeling clean and tidy each week. The printable cleaning checklist I’ve shared gives you a roadmap to follow but you don’t have to complete all the tasks I’ve included.
As you create a weekly cleaning routine, ask yourself these questions:
- What tasks need to be done so that my home feels clean?
- Which tasks will I need to do every day and which ones can be done less often?
- How much time do I have in my daily schedule to focus on cleaning?
- Where will my laundry routine fit into my weekly cleaning checklist?
- Which weekly cleaning tasks will I handle and which ones will I delegate to my spouse/partner and kids?
Asking these kinds of questions can help you create a weekly cleaning routine that’s doable and realistic, without being overwhelming.
Once you’ve figured out what you want to tackle, you can go through your weekly cleaning checklist and decide what to do each day. You might handle smaller cleaning chores daily, then block off one day for a weekly home reset to tackle the bigger cleaning jobs.

Cleaning Hacks for Busy Moms
Need a few ideas for how to make your cleaning routine easier? Here are some of my favorite busy mom cleaning hacks!
- Use a timer. No time for a deep clean? Try setting a time for 10 or 15 minutes instead and focus on one room or area of your home. You might be surprised at how much you can pick up and tidy up in just a few minutes.
- Declutter. Doing a total home declutter can take time but it’s so worth it if you want to have less “stuff” to keep up with–and less to clean. Trying to declutter your home in one day might be unrealistic, but you could try a 30-day decluttering challenge instead to pace yourself.
- Clean in zones. Zone cleaning helps you stay focused on one particular area of your home so you’re not constantly moving back and forth between rooms. For example, your entryway could be one zone, while your kitchen is another. Working in zones can help you get more done and do it faster since you’re focusing your efforts in one area.
- Try cleaning gadgets to save time. Here’s a confession: I totally thought robotic vaccuums were a waste of money, until I got one as a gift for Christmas. These things are a godsend for keeping your floors clean if you have hardwood or laminate, especially if you have pets that shed like we do. I’ve got a Eufy self-emptying robot vacuum that I can control with an app but you can shop around to find one that fits your needs and budget.
- Aim for done, not perfect. Here’s the thing about cleaning: it’s never really done. If you’ve got kids (and pets) you know what I mean. I used to get discouraged when I read posts on forums like r/cleaningtips where moms were talking about how they cleaned all day, every day. Would my home ever feel clean if I couldn’t follow the same routine? Then I learned to accept that done is better than perfect and the mess always comes back–you just need to have a plan for keeping it under control.
