Research shows that writing things down can help you be more productive, manage your time better, and remember your most important tasks. So today, I’m sharing a free printable daily to-do list for busy moms, along with a few tips to help you stay on top of it all!

Why Moms Should Use a Daily To-Do List

Listen, I don’t know about you but I’ve got a lot going on. I’m running multiple businesses, raising teenagers, and taking care of a household without a spouse or partner to help. So I need a to-do list to keep track of it all.

And maybe some of this sounds familiar to you. You might be homeschooling your kids or trying to keep up with your weekly cleaning schedule or earning some extra money on the side–whatever your busy life involves, a to-do list can help you stay organized and keep stress to a minimum.

A daily to-do list helps you to:

  • Organize your brain dumps into a structured plan for getting things done
  • Prioritize tasks so you can decide how to allocate your time each day
  • Feel more in control of your daily routine and schedule
  • Remember important tasks and events
  • Minimize overwhelm by knowing what needs to be done and when

I’m a big fan of making lists to organize your life in general and a daily to-do list is an absolute must for me. If you’ve never tried list-making before, then now is a perfect time to grab your free printable daily to-do list and get started!

What to Include on a Daily To-Do List

What you add to your to-do list each day is up to you and should reflect what your schedule and routines look like. If you need some inspiration, here are a few ideas for things you can add to your daily to-do list:

  • Phone calls to make
  • Texts or emails to send
  • Errands to run
  • Chores or cleaning tasks to tackle (like laundry)
  • Daily meal plans
  • Letters or packages you need to send
  • Work-related tasks you need to handle (if you work at home or outside the home)
  • Appointments to schedule
  • Bills to pay

Those are just some of the things that have found their way onto my to-do lists from time to time. Yours might look similar or completely different–it’s all about you and your lifestyle!

How to Use a Printable Daily To-Do List

You can print the daily to-do list worksheet included here as many times as you need, or laminate it to reuse each day. I prefer to start with a fresh sheet each day so I can look back at my old to-do lists and copy over anything that didn’t get done.

Once you’ve got your to-do list in hand, it’s time to fill it in! You’ll see that this to-do checklist has spaces for:

  • Individual tasks/items
  • Important reminders/events
  • Notes

Go through and fill in your to-dos first, then add your important reminders and notes. Next, decide if you’ll cross things off from your list as you complete them or at the end of the day.

I personally do the crossing-off at the end of the day because I usually don’t have time to stop and cross off items when I’m busy. But you may want to cross things off as you complete them so you don’t forget that they’re done.

At the end of the day, you can look at your list and see what you’ve accomplished. And really, that is a great feeling to see a bunch of tasks with a line through them. But even if you only get to one or two things on your list, you should still celebrate those wins.

Here are a few more tips for making to-do lists to stay organized:

  • Limit your to-dos. Too many items on your daily to-do list is a guaranteed way to feel overwhelmed. As you get used to keeping a to-do list, aim to include your 3 most important tasks to start. You can include other things on your list but make those three your priority so that when you complete them, you can feel accomplished and motivated to continue with the rest of the list.
  • Plan weekly. I’ve found that a helpful way to plan my to-do list each day without being overwhelmed is to plan weekly. Here’s what that looks like: I make a big brain dump list of all the things that need to get done and then assign tasks to each day. You might find that it’s easier to work your way through the list when you’re planning out each day ahead of time.
  • Keep a “done” list. Some organized moms love keeping a “done” list to go with their to-do lists. A “done” list is a list of all the things you’ve managed to do, whether they were included on your to-do list or not. So, did you complete your morning routine? It goes on the list. Did you get the house tidied up before lunch? Add it to the list. These things may seem small, but knowing what you’re capable of getting done can be a huge motivator when the business of life feels overwhelming.
